Job Description

The New School seeks a detail-oriented Manager of Prospect Research to join the dynamic and fast-paced department of Development and Alumni Engagement (DAE). This position will report to the Senior Director, Donor Relations and will draw upon multiple resources to assess financial capacity, philanthropic tendencies, giving propensity, and connections with TNS with the goal of generating new donations and fostering strategically important relationships with the university. The Manager, Prospect Research will also be a key partner in portfolio management.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct biographical and financial research on individual and institutional donors and prospects, utilizing in-house files and a variety of online, electronic, and printed sources.

  • Coordinate the workflow of research requests.

  • Create research profiles for donor meetings and prepare research for university events.

  • Analyze wealth information to determine giving capacity estimates.

  • Manage projects involving prospect identification, external screenings, rating recommendations, and prospect information updates.

  • Monitor news alerts for updates about alumni and other prospects.

  • Review the report of incoming gifts on a daily basis for prospecting and portfolio maintenance purposes.

  • Hold regular meetings with the gift officers, including but not limited to quarterly portfolio reviews, to assess and ensure portfolio health.

  • Keep up with and uphold industry best practices related to prospect research and relationship management, particularly in areas related to equity, inclusion, and social justice.

  • Other duties as assigned by the Senior Director of Donor Relations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • 3-5 years of experience in the non-profit or higher education sector; at least two years of prospect research experience.

  • Demonstrated aptitude for analyzing and interpreting data (including property records, SEC filings, IRS 990s, etc.), and for synthesizing complex information from multiple sources.

  • Keen attention to detail and accuracy in data entry, reporting, fact-finding, and writing.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, with special emphasis on Microsoft Excel.

  • Proficiency with information databases (LexisNexis, iWave, etc.) and relational databases/CRMs.

  • Personal initiative, creativity, flexibility, and strong problem-solving skills.

  • Strong organizational, analytical, and time-management skills.

  • Discretion in working with confidential information.
     

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Knowledge of Salesforce preferred.

WORK MODE

  • Hybrid - Employees hired for this position primarily work remotely with the occasional on-campus presence required with advanced notice . Employees in this role will also be expected to use their best judgment to be on campus when necessary in order to best fulfill the responsibilities of their job descriptions. #LI-HYBRID

SALARY RANGE

$75,000 - $85,000 per annum
